About Us
Our day camp is like a
good family restaurant, one that serves excellent food but not everyone
knows about. I have directed the All-American Basketball Camp for
it's entire history. We are still standing while hundreds
of camps have come and gone, because we have stressed quality basketball
through proper teaching of fundamentals by a mature, adult coaching
staff.
Coupled with my son,
co-director Ronald Alfieri, we offer more than a half-century of
experience. We guarantee that your child will be taught
properly, and will also have fun, the basic ingredients for
learning.
Camps all over the United
States have copied our teaching methods, especially how we encourage
competition without emphasizing one camper's talent to another.
For example when we play
camp games, we do not keep score. We play to correct mistakes, not
have our coaches compete for camp championships. Those can be won
in their playing careers.
We keep no league
standings but we do evaluate and judge who has demonstrated the highest
skills. Our most important judgment, however, is those awarded to
the most improved campers. Greatest improvement is what the camp
is about.
Our philosophy stresses
individual improvement within the teachings of a team game. We
remind our campers that if they are part of an outstanding camp team but
learn little, they have wasted time.
Our camp is a disciplined
one and yet we allow campers to make judgments during portions of our
program. However, every aspect of our camp concerns itself with
proper supervision and safety. When parents call to inquire about
our procedures, I explain that we are as concerned about their children
as they are because we are responsible for all of them.
Sincerely,
Gus Alfieri, Camp
Director
