Gus Bio

Gus Alfieri coached on a high school level for more than twenty years, winning more than 75% of his games. His coaching career has been highlighted by two New York State Championships along four Catholic School Championships and a spectacular 49-game winning streak! Gus had one of his finest hours when he was invited by the Italian Federation of Basketball to lecture Italian coaches in Rome.

In 1984 his St. Anthony Friar Team was awarded the Hofstra Cup symbolic of the #1 team on Long Island! In 1994, Gus was awarded a Ph. D. from Stony Brook University. Dr. Gus Alfieri presently helps prepare future coaches, by teaching "Sports and Society" in Stony Brooks' graduate school.

Gus's book on Joe Lapchick LAPCHICK: THE LIFE OF A LEGENDARY PLAYER AND COACH IN THE GLORY DAYS OF BASKETBALL will hit the bookstores in the fall of 2006. Gus has also started a book about his number one team in the State of New York.
