Police believe two former Columbia University students may have blasted pro-Palestinian student protesters with a “foul smelling” spray at the uptown Manhattan campus last month, cops said Tuesday.
The demonstration happened on the steps of the university’s Low Library on Jan. 19.
At least 10 Columbia and Barnard students complained of burning eyes, nausea and headaches after they were sprayed during the protest, according to the Columbia Spectator, a student newspaper.
Police are still testing seized items and working to determine what the spray was that sickened some of the students and required them to get medical treatment.
There have been no arrests, but police have reviewed video of the demonstration and believe they have identified two former students responsible for spraying the protesters, Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a news briefing Tuesday. Further details on the suspects were not available.
Cops are continuing to review surveillance video related to the protest.
